Growing revenue is a science, not an art
We actually have something to celebrate this week here at Growblocks.
We picked up a €6m check in seed funding. And - much, much more importantly - we are launching our Beta product today - you can watch a 5min demo here.
The €6m will go towards building an insanely awesome product that helps companies apply our core belief:
Growing Revenue is a science. Not an art.
Olafur and I reached this belief in 2014 or so. Basically, seeing the “adulation of the AE” collapse. The sales black box was suddenly very clearly not about the magic skills of an AE.
Instead, it was about the number of opportunities and where they came from - at least in our very simple world back then.
At first, we used this insight to create MBRs and QBRs that could sufficiently explain the past so we could take action.
But eventually, it also became a tool to predict future events. We subsequently built this logic into a spreadsheet to help support a major rebuild of our revenue engine at that time (150+ people in GTM).
The result was that we hit 12 quarters in a row. Awesome.
Back then, we felt PRETTY good about ourselves.
But as we advanced in our careers, we realized that there was one big flaw:
It was only a selected few that was both “Excel-literate” and “commercially literate” enough to really use it.
Effectively limiting the application of this belief to 2-3 people. Excluding most of the really deep commercial experts like VP Sales, VP Marketing, VP CS, Directors, Managers, and the CEO.
We clearly saw that this slowed us down at Falcon, Tempalfy, and Planday. But it really broke down into 2 main problems:
1. Some people not knowing about or not sharing our core belief
2. Inability to instrument this core belief to make it accessible to everyone
We just got €6m to work on the second problem. So that’s good.
To address the first problem, we are building a Cohort of modern revenue operators, mostly senior RevOps, CROs, or COOs.
We are organizing in small clusters, some locally centered around local events, some based on seniority or the problems we face.
But while sharing experiences internally, it’s important to us to also educate a wider audience on why data-driven and logic-based approaches to revenue are the way forward.
Ping me if you want to join the waitlist while we implement the last details. But - keep in mind - it only makes sense for everyone if everyone joining is a great fit & an active participant in the cohort. So please excuse us for being picky!
